Smart Return at Jump.ca
SmartReturn is an easy and flexible way to buy and upgrade your new phone — available when shopping online or in any Jump.ca retail location across Saskatchewan.
How It Works
When you choose SmartReturn at the time of purchase (online or in-store), you have two options near the end of your 2-year term:
-
Return your phone in "good working condition" at any Jump.ca retail location and upgrade to a new phone.
-
Keep your phone and pay the SmartReturn payback amount that was provided at the start of your contract.
The same options apply if you cancel your service before your term ends.
Financing Your Phone with SmartReturn
With SmartReturn, you can finance your phone through Plus Pricing, spreading payments over 24 months. If you upgrade early (after 21 months), you can:
-
Pay off the remaining Plus Pricing balance when upgrading.
-
Continue making monthly payments until your balance is fully paid.
Payback Amount
The payback amount equals the discount you received at the time of purchase. You'll be responsible for this amount if you:
-
Upgrade your phone before the return period.
-
Don’t return your phone in "good working condition" during the return period.
-
Change your wireless plan to a voice-only or data-only option.
-
Cancel your wireless service before or after the return period (without returning a phone in "good working condition").
Your payback amount is listed in your contract and also available in your mySASKTEL account.
Return Period
Your return period starts 21 months after your phone purchase and lasts for 3 months.
You will receive text reminders when your return window approaches.
It’s a good idea to plan ahead and return your phone early if needed — this allows time for evaluation and potential replacement.
If You:
Upgrade your device before the return period:
You’ll pay:
-
Any early device upgrade balance.
-
The SmartReturn payback amount.
You can keep your phone.
Don’t return your phone during the return period:
-
You’ll be charged the SmartReturn payback amount automatically.
-
You can keep using your phone or upgrade when ready (paying any early device upgrade balance if applicable).
How to Return Your Phone
While you can select SmartReturn online, device returns must be done in person at any Jump.ca retail location.
Preparing Your Phone for Return
Before bringing your phone to a Jump.ca store:
-
Back up personal data (contacts, photos, music, etc.).
-
Remove any memory cards.
-
Reset your phone to factory settings.
-
Charge your phone so it can be evaluated.
-
Remove all security settings and accounts (Apple ID, Android account, PINs, etc.).
Accessories and packaging aren’t required — but we’ll happily recycle them if you bring them along!
Upgrading to a New Phone
When upgrading during your return period, returning your phone in "good working condition" allows you to:
-
Avoid paying the payback amount.
-
Upgrade to a new phone with or without SmartReturn.
Our Jump.ca staff will evaluate your phone and provide upgrade options.
If Your Phone:
Meets our evaluation criteria:
-
You return it and upgrade.
Doesn’t meet the criteria:
-
You can choose to pay the payback amount and keep your phone.
-
If you have Wireless Device Protection Plan, you can return your phone in any condition without making a claim.
-
You may also repair the phone and return it before the return window closes.
If your phone was replaced under warranty, it still needs to meet the evaluation criteria.
iPhones under warranty must be repaired through Apple to maintain coverage.
Is lost or stolen:
-
You’ll pay the payback amount.
-
If you have Wireless Device Protection Plan, we’ll flag the phone and handle the process for you.
Evaluation Criteria
We’ll confirm your phone is in "good working condition" using the following checks:
-
Device is not lost or stolen.
-
Device powers on and functions properly.
-
Keyboard/touchscreen works correctly.
-
Screen and body are free of visible cracks, chips, or missing parts.
-
Battery and battery cover are present.
-
All security locks (Find My iPhone, Activation Lock, Android account) are turned off.
-
Device is reset to factory settings.
Phones covered under Wireless Device Protection Plan are eligible for return regardless of condition.
Replacement Options
If you’ve replaced your phone during your 2-year term, you can return a device that is:
-
The same make and an equal or better model, colour, and size.
-
In "good working condition".
Be sure to update the phone’s IMEI on your account if you’ve had it replaced — this ensures your upgrade goes smoothly.
